Guest Lecture Agustin Lage Davilla

Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia held a guest lecture on Wednesday (7/5). Located in the Classrooms Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Unit of the FMUI-RSCM, the guest lecture invited dr. Agustin Lage Davilla, the General Director of the Center of Molecular, Cuba as a speaker.

Started at 09.00 am, the guest lecture was opened by remarks from the Vice Dean for Resources, Venture, and General Administration FMUI, dr. Ponco Birowo, SpU (K), PhD. The remarks was then followed by a speech from the Cuban Ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency Enna Viant Valdes.

After that, moderated by Andriansyah, Msi, M.Biomed, PhD the event was immediately followed by a lecture from dr. Agustin Lage Davilla entitled “Biotechnology: It’s Impact in the Pharma Industry and in the Approaches for the Control of Cancer”. In his presentation, Davilla much focused on the development of biotechnology for cancer. Among others were about the possible discovery of new drugs, new paradigms in controlling the cancer itself, and the possibility of the development of research on levels of chronic and cancer immunology. Finally, on the discussion session, all the participants were enthusiastically asking questions related to the titled provided.

In recent years, Indonesia and Cuba were looking for various forms of cooperation and partnerships, including in the fields of education and medicine. This cooperation includes the development for cancer drug, development of herbal medicines, vaccines, medical equipment maintenance, research, and health professional exchange. This cooperation is expected to improve bilateral relations between Indonesia and Cuba.

The series of guest lecture then closed with exchange of souvenirs and photographs of all involved. Through the exchange of ideas by experts and participants, new knowledge on how to improve human welfare, especially in biotechnology and cancer problem, will be generated. Not only that, the lecture is expected to develop widely cooperation in science and medical education, both for Indonesia and Cuba. (Mel/Dan/Die/Iwa)
