Home to almost 11 million people from multifarious ethnic groups, Jakarta, or the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta), is the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia. Jakarta is also currently the largest city in Southeast Asia and is considered a global city and one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Furthermore, this city is the heart of Indonesia’s political center and national government.

Jakarta is divided into 5 districts: Central Jakarta, North Jakarta, West Jakarta, East Jakarta and South Jakarta. Each has its own iconic destination. For instance, in Central Jakarta one can find the iconic landmarks of Jakarta, including the pictures displayed above and they are Bunderan HI (left picture) and The National Museum (right picture). Some of the most prestigious shopping malls and luxurious hotels are also located in Central Jakarta. Moreover, the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia, along with its teaching hospital, dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital, are also located in this central region.

Not only is the city full of charming destinations, Jakarta is also interspersed with its remarkable culinary delights. Renowned for their savory taste, one can easily indulge in them in almost every part of the city: Nasi Goreng, Rendang, Sate, Gado-gado, Soto and many more.

Since Jakarta is a large metropolis, expect traffic congestion when traveling around the business districts, especially during peak hours. Nevertheless, the best way to commute around the city is by Transjakarta bus, MRT, rented car and taxi.
