FMUI Students Swept Up Bronze Medal in Thailand

Another achievement from FMUI students. This time it is Gerry Kurniawan who received the bronze medal in The 6th Chiang Mai University International Medical Challenge (CMU-IMC) 2019, which was held by Chiang Mai University, Thailand on July 12th-15th 2019.

CMU-IMC was an annual international competition. This competition consists of two categories, individual contest and group contest, delegated will be competing in a quiz. This year’s theme is “Basic Clinical Physiology” which focused on basic function of the human body and its connection to a disease.

37 teams competed from multiple universities around the world. There are 5 stages of the competition, multiple choice question, semifinal, revival stage, resuscitation stage, and final stage. FMUI team consist of Gerry Kurniawan, Nagita Gianty, and Stanislaus Ivanovich successfully fought until the revival stage. And on the individual contest, Gerry Kurniawan received a bronze medal.

Before taking off to Thailand, the students underwent intensive guidance from their teacher on the Physiology Department FMUI, dr. Imelda Rosalyn Sianipar, M.Biomed, dr. Nurul Paramita, M.Biomed, Dr. dr. Ernita Isfandiary Ibrahim Ilyas, MS, and Dr. dr. Dewi Irawati, MS, also from the Internal medicine Department FMUI-RSCM dr. Dicky Levenus Tahapary, SpPD-KEMD, PhD.

Gerry Kurniawan said that in CMU-IMC he learned a lot from time management, connecting with new friends, and also new knowledge about physiology. He also learned about medical education in other countries.

“FMUI team and I learned a lot about the development of physiology in other countries from the competitions, the lecture given, and simply chatting with contestant from other countries.” Gerry said “Physiology is the fundamental knowledge in medicine, so following the development of technology can be helpful in our study as a medical student”

Gerry shared a tip to fellow medical students planning to compete in similar contest “Don’t ever give up because nothing is impossible. Prepare yourself as best as you can, follow the schedule given, exercise, and pray. Also asked your parents to pray for you”

Gerry hope his achievement can motivate other student to make more achievements for FMUI.
