FMUI Students’ Achievements in Scripta Research Festival 2019

FMUI students continues to shine in national medical competition. This time, teams of FMUI students manage to achieve greatness in Scripta Research Festival (SRF) 2019 on January 31st – February 4th 2019, held by Faculty of Medicine Sumatera Utara University.

Scripta Research Festival (SRF) is an annual scientific activity, held to support Indonesian medical student’s interest in research. SRF activities include symposium and competition.  The theme this year is Digestive Disease: Maximizing Society’s Awareness on Digestive Issues for A Better Life Quality, and there are four categories of competition, including literature review and scientific poster, public poster, scientific essay, and educational video.

In this competition, FMUI students successfully achieved two awards out of four categories. In the category literature review-scientific, FMUI team became the 1st winner, the team consists of Favian Ariiq R (3rd year FMUI student), Muhamad Faza Soelaeman (3rd year FMUI student), and Aji Wahyu W (2nd year MUI student). Their scientific poster is titled “Predictive factors of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma Early Recurrence after Curative Surgical Resection: A Systematic Review”.

“The reason why we did this research is because of the high mortality rate caused by pancreatic cancer around the globe. Even though cancer is curable with operation in earlier stage, the recurrence of said cancer is very high” Muhammad Faza said to FMUI public relation, “That’s why it is needed to know factors contributing to those recurrence, so therapy protocols can be made to prevent worsening of patient’s condition”

In the scientific essay category, Muhammad Faza Soelaeman became the 2nd winner, with his essay titled “Chimeric Oligonucleotide RNA (APTAMER) PD-1 and CTLA-4 antagonist potential as an Innovation for Colorectal Cancer Immunotherapy”.

“This essay is written because I want to explore more about the potential of RNA based therapy for colorectal cancer. The failure of colorectal cancer therapy is very high; thus alternative therapy is needed. This type of immunotherapy has very great potential” said Faza.

Faviian Ariiq R, expresses his satisfaction with his team’s achievements to FMUI public relation, “Alhamdulillah, our achievements in this competition won’t happen without the hardwork of everyone in the team. We wish our research can be applicated in the clinical world in the future” Favian said as a closing statement.
